Why I Jade Roll my face and you should too!

I started to incorporate a jade roller into my morning and evening skincare routine and I am never going back! Before you start with all the "ya, like I need one more step in my skincare routine" talk let me stop you right these! This is one extra minute, 60 seconds of your morning for some really great skin health benefits. Your skin is your largest organ and you need to put effort into keeping it healthy! If I told you investing one extra minute every morning and every night would improve your skin health I bet you would make the time!

What is the purpose of a Jade Roller?

I get it, you don't have the time for one more step to your already excessive skincare routine, but just hear me out! There will be so many benefits if you can squeeze and extra minute twice a day dedicated to your skin health.

  • Tones facial muscles

  • Increases oxygen levels to the bloodstream

  • Improves blood circulation

  • Promotes lymphatic drainage

  • Clears toxins from the skin

  • Reduces fine lines

  • Reduces the appearance of puffiness

  • Reduces wrinkles around the eyes

  • Reduces cell turnover time

  • Minimizes enlarged pores

  • Decreases tension headaches (I love using this on my masseters when I find myself clenching my jaw)

  • Boosts skin elastin

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Minimizes spots around chin and jawline caused by a buildup of toxins

  • Brightens skin

  • Aides in releasing blocked sinus congestion

  • Allows skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin

All those benefits for one minute of work every morning and evening?! YES PLEASE! If I could do sit-ups for one minute twice a day and have a perfect toned stomach I absolutely would do it, so why should we prioritize our skin less when its our largest organ?

It is said that Jade has healing properties and helps align energy. I am by no means an expert on this by any means so I am not going dive into these additional benefits but I would be open to learning more about it!

Do Jade Rollers hurt?

No! I have received a lot of questions asking how this compares to Microneedeling (those rollers or stamps that you can find with lots of little needles that looks somewhat like an ancient tourture device). Using a facial roller is completely non-invasive and is like a massage for your face. No matter if you use a jade, amethysts, quartz or any other natural stone roller you are going to enjoy the process.

Although you may experience some slight flushing to the skin, this pinkness does not last long and proves that you are getting the circulation pumping in your skin! Jade rollers do not penetrate the skin or cause any micro-wounds, unlike microneedeling. I love using my jade roller on my jaw to help relieve tension and jaw pain.

I love to keep my jade roller in the fridge! This feels so good on my under eyes, especially when my allergies are bothering me.

Where did Jade Rollers Originate?

If you have questions about all our different wars or what president said what and my husband will be the first to tell you not to use me as your phone a friend. History is NOT my thing! I always tell my husband I don't think I took that class when he looks at me dumbfounded because I don't know about yet another "monumental moment in history", however, he insists EVERYONE has taken a US History class and I just didn't pay attention because I wasn't interested. I can not debunk that statement....

However.... get me started on the history of Fashion (a class I actually DID take when I attend Laboratory Institute of Merchandising in NYC my Freshman year of collage) or the history of beauty products and I will go on for hours! No really... if you have made it this far Good for you! Go reward yourself with this beautiful Jade Roller, you have earned it!

The use of a Jade Roller can be traced back to ancient Asia. In this culture Jade Roller translated to beauty stone and I think that is such a fitting name for this little tool. Due to one of the benefits of using a Jade Roller is having a positive impact on overall muscle tone, some refer to this little beauty tool as a facial workout.

How do I use a Jade Roller?

Step 1: Cleanse your skin with your favorite facial cleanser. (Leave your recommendations as I'm on the hunt for a ride or die cleanser)

Step 2: (See the diagram below) Starting at the collar bone and working your way up, move the jade roller from the inner portion of your body / face outward.

I start with my chest and move out horizontally towards my shoulders. With each pass I move further up my neck making my way to my face. Remember to continue starting in the center my face aligned with my nose, across my cheek, towards my hairline. Continue to do this all the way up to your forehead.

Step 3: Spend more time in areas that you have fine lines such as around the mouth (your nasolabial folds), eyes, and forehead. Anywhere on your face that has more movement from facial expressions! I also love spending more time in areas that I hold tension such as my jaw since I am a teeth clencher!

It is common to have some slight flushing to the skin after using your Jade Roller. Thats a good sign your blood is flowing and it's working! This redness typically goes away after a few moments after completing rolling. This process will also help your products penetrate deeper allowing them to be more effective! I love to do this after applying my Herbivore Botanicals Facial Oils and ZO Skin Health Growth Factor!

This is the Jade Roller that I currently use and love!

What are you waiting for?! Get to rolling! I'd love to hear how you notice it improve your skin! Tag me on Instagram showing me how you use yours @AnnalieseFranklinBlog
