Overnight Bread Pudding French Toast

This is a highly requested special events breakfast in my house. I make it every Christmas morning since the majority of the preparation takes place the night before. This allows me to be apart of opening gifts while the entire house fills up with the delicious smell of cozy French toast. Once gifts are open breakfast is ready, perfect to fuel little tummies for a long day of play!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Challah bread

  • 8 eggs

  • 1/2 cup milk (would recommend using 2% or higher)

  • 2 cup half and half

  • 3 tablespoons sugar

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (I use fresh ground. It makes a big difference)

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Sticky Cinnamon Topping

  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg

Directions

  1. Butter a 9×13 dish completely (bottom, corners, and up sides)

  2. Cube challah bread and place it in buttered dish

  3. In a large bowl whisk together: 8 eggs, 2 cups half and half, 1/2 cup milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of each vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

  4. 4. Pour mixture over bread cubes, covering completely.

  5. Cover with foil and put in refrigerator overnight.

  6. The next day, preheat oven to 350F.

  7. Using a spatula, carefully flip over cubes of bread making sure every piece is good and coated.

  8. Combine ingredients of sticky cinnamon topping in bowl (this is the game changer).. Spread sticky topping all over the top of your freshly flipped bread and bake until puffy and golden brown (about 30-45 mins).
